Does Abortion Cause Breast Cancer?
This is one of the most controversial questions out there. The local abortion provider website states there is no risk, based on a 1997 study by the National Cancer Institute which was confirmed at a 2003 National Cancer Institute Symposium. However in 2009, National Cancer Institute Branch Chief Louise Brinton co-authored a 2009 study which reported a statistically significant 40 percent increased breast cancer risk for women with abortions. They stated, “Specifically, older age, family history of breast cancer, earlier menarche age (the first time you have your period), induced abortion, and oral contraceptive use were associated with an increased risk for breast cancer.” A study of eight European countries in 2007 found that abortion is the “best predictor” of breast cancer trends (Journal of American Physicians and Surgeons).
