Our Medical Team: Professional & Caring
When you come to Your First Look you will find a caring and compassionate group of medical professionals with many years of experience. Our medical director is Harvey Popovich, MD. Reviewing the ultrasounds scans is Lillian Miller, MD. Our nurse manager is Kathi Taub RN. We also have two sonographers; two nurse/sonographers and 10 volunteer nurses who are here because they care about women and want to help you through your unplanned pregnancy.
Our medical and patient services staff and volunteers are specially trained to handle early pregnancies. There are basically three options: abortion, adoption & parenting. They can answer your questions about all three of these options. We also know about the resources available to women with unplanned pregnancies.
If you are facing an unplanned pregnancy, a common first reaction is feeling paralyzed with fear. It’s never a good idea to make a decision based on fear. Our natural flight or fight response may not serve us well in this situation. Instead, plan to come to Your First Look where we can walk with you, step by step, through your unplanned pregnancy. We will start with a pregnancy test. While you are waiting for the results, a patient advocate (someone who is here just for you) will find out about your situation, review your options, and begin to determine what resources would work best for you. A nurse will then do a health assessment with you, talk to you about STD testing, and, if you are pregnant, see if an ultrasound would be in order. If she recommends an ultrasound, one can be done immediately. The ultrasound will show if your pregnancy is viable (alive in the uterus). Since about 31% of early pregnancies naturally self terminate due to miscarriage, ectopic pregnancy, etc., it is a good idea to find this out before you make a decision as to the outcome of your pregnancy.
After the ultrasound your patient advocate will meet with you again to go over the resources available to you and to help you make a plan for the next steps. If you are still undecided at the end of the appointment, you’ll be invited to come back as often as you wish until you have the confidence to move forward on your own. We won’t leave you hanging. With your permission, a member of our staff will call you back periodically to check in and see if we can offer any additional information or support.
Your First Look is free, confidential, professional, and compassionate. You’re not alone. Let us help you move from fear to confidence.
